Vitamin B12 shots are injections that a doctor may prescribe to treat a vitamin B12 deficiency, especially if a person's body has difficulty absorbing the vitamin. A deficiency in vitamin B12 can lead to various health problems, ranging from fatigue to permanent neurological changes. Certain conditions like Crohn's disease, celiac, Graves', certain cancers, pernicious anemia, certain infections, and lupus also illicit B12 supplementation. Certain prescription medications such as antacids and some drugs for type 2 diabetes can increase the risk for a B12 inadequacy in the body.
